Dear Pearland Friends,

Summer dreams do come true!!! Congratulations to the Pearland Little League All Stars in their pursuit of the Little League Baseball World Series Championship!! The team’s journey and what it means to them is profiled in this issue. These boys of summer are golden!

September is National Literacy month. Our cover and feature article recognize Nina Hayden and her life changing experience in learning to read at age 50. Thanks to her tutor, Sherry Bolduc, at the Adult Learning Center, Nina’s world has completely opened up giving her tremendous confidence and self-esteem to venture out and contribute even more to her community. Nina took a brave leap into the wonderful world of reading and is reaping the rewards in many ways.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. So many of us have been affected by this disease from personal experience or that of our friends and relatives. We feature breast cancer survivors telling their stories of survival as inspiration to us all. Mark your calendars for Oct. 2nd and plan on attending the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. This annual race raises money for research to find a cure and your participation supports that effort as well as the survivors of this dreaded disease.
